International Women’s Day

Message from Anglicare NT Executive Manager Mental Health – Jade Gooding.

Today is International Women’s Day. On this day, we take time to recognise the wonderful women around us, celebrate their amazing successes and advocate for gender equality. More and more we have seen global activism striving for gender parity; movements such as #MeToo and #TimesUp are calling for a change in the way all people view not only gender, but opportunities in the workplace and society in general. We all have a responsibility to treat others the way we wish to be treated.

As a parent to two young boys, my message is always the same: Be Brave and Be Kind. It is my challenge to ensure these boys grow up understanding everyone should have the same opportunities despite their individual circumstances. Boundaries and limitations are only what we allow them to be.

This years campaign theme is #PressForProgress; the aim is to continue to shine a light on discrimination based on gender and encourage all members of our community to push the boundaries. Today, take a moment to recognise the women in your life. Let’s also not forget those men who have facilitated this discussion and contributed to equality.

Happy International Women’s Day
