Growing the Workforce to Support Young People

The Anglicare NT Communities for Children program worked with Territory Families and a local working group to coordinate a Cross Sector Orientation Workshop in Alice Springs in May. The workshop aimed to strengthen and build interagency relationships, while fostering collaborative practice and increasing awareness of services in the child and family sector.

The workshop was well attended with 30 stallholders and over 160 participants. Minister for Territory Families, Dale Wakefield and Chair of Children’s Ground, Mr William Tilmouth commenced the day as key note speakers. They were followed by presentations from a wide range of service providers, both government and non-government.

The workshop was interactive and engaging. Following each group of presenters there was time for table discussion and questions to the panel of speakers. Participants were asked to regularly visit stallholders to find out information about the represented services.  After some intense table discussion around complex case studies, the Drum Atweme drumming group provided a wonderful performance and Yappa Fashions modelled their designs and clothes.

A range of resources is now available on a dedicated website to support greater understanding and awareness of services available and referral pathways for workers in the children’s services sector. The presentations and handouts are available here.
