World Suicide Prevention Day, 10 September

In Australia, suicide is the leading cause of death for males and females aged between 15 and 44. For every suicide, there are traumatic impacts on friends, families, colleagues and the broader community. To support those in need and those working in the mental health and suicide prevention sectors Anglicare NT offers a range of services including community information and training, intensive case management for vulnerable young people and support for those bereaved by suicide.

headspace Darwin, now based at Casuarina, is an early intervention program that supports young people’s mental health and wellbeing. headspace Darwin provides a range of services including counselling, support and specialised mental health services to young people aged 12-25.

The Top End Suicide Intervention and Awareness Training Program uses internationally recognised evidence based training tools developed and maintained by LivingWorks to provide suicide intervention and awareness training across the Top End of the Northern Territory. The core training programs are the two day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and the suicide alertness program known as SafeTALK.  ASIST has become known as the global standard in suicide intervention training.  SafeTALK was developed to complement ASIST, enabling community members to connect those at risk of suicide to people who could carry out a full intervention, such as ASIST-trained caregivers.  Training is held across the Top End in urban, regional and remote locations.

Supporting those who have been bereaved by suicide, StandBy is a coordinated 24 hour community response service for families, friends and associates. For more information about our services contact 08 8985 0000.
