World Social Work Day

Today is World Social Work Day – and we want to use this day to shine a light on who social workers are, the values they lead with, and the incredible work social workers do.

Did you know all social workers are committed to a code of ethics that includes social justice, dignity and integrity? Pretty impressive ideals for a professional foundation don’t you think?

A team of social workers who work across our three headspace sites got together recently to talk about what drew them to the work, and what is rewarding about being a social worker.

“The words you see here are topics that we touched on” said Penny Reu who is a clinical educator and mental health social worker at headspace. “Although we all came from different backgrounds, there were common threads that tied us together – including being led by our values and being driven by connecting with people”.

And for World Social Work Day, we are asking people to take a look at the words, chose some that resonate, and try to imagine what your world would look like if there was more of your word around. Balance for example, or systems thinking, or empowering.

Anglicare NT and headspace thank the social workers in the world for their hard work, commitment and care to social justice, dignity and integrity.
