Suicide Prevention Training

The TESIAT program provides and coordinates suicide intervention and awareness training across the Top End of the Northern Territory. The program offers both the skills based 2-day Living Works Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop and a half day Suicide Awareness session – Suicide SafeTALK.

Anglicare NT have presented these workshops since 1998 and have trained well over 6000 people from a wide range of service backgrounds including volunteers and general community members.

Sudha Coutinho has recently commenced at Anglicare NT as Program Coordinator for the Top End Suicide Intervention Awareness Training (TESIAT) Program. Sudha comes from a mental health clinical background and she has recently moved to Darwin after 18 years living and working in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia.

ASIST and SafeTALK are founded on the principle that everyone can make a difference in preventing suicide and the fact that ‘suicide is everyone’s business’. The more people who have suicide intervention training, the more likely we as a community will be able to identify someone at risk and intervene to keep them safe….and the greater hope we have to live in suicide safer communities.

Funding for ASIST and SafeTALK is provided by the NT Government.
