Reel Women supports real women

This year, the 14th Annual Reel Women Barra Classic – a women’s fishing tournament held in Darwin every year – will be kindly donating its proceeds to the Anglicare NT Pandanus Project

Emma Cartwright, founder of the unique event which will be held on May 15 and 16 2015, has a special place in her heart for Anglicare NT and its work, and feels that the Pandanus Project is a worthy cause to donate this year’s proceeds to.

The service supports young pregnant women and young parents, aiming to increase awareness of healthy relationships and promoting support networks.

Michelle Parker, Senior Project Officer Youth Support & Development, says: “Anglicare NT is very grateful for the support from Reel Women Barra Classic. Anglicare NT has been supporting young women and families throughout their pregnancies and early parenting for over 15 years.

“This generous donation will enable us to further support young women as they become strong and confident members of the community. Following recent announcements that our funding for the Youth friendly Child Birth Education is ending in June, it will allow us to continue child birth education while we look to other options, and establish a small fund to support young pregnant women and young mums with things such as baby and white goods.

“It is great to have the support of local Darwin business people to improve outcomes for young people in Darwin and the surrounding areas.”
