Reel Women Support Real Women

The 14th Annual Barramundi Volkswagen Reel Women Barra Classic, held earlier this year at Dundee Beach, raised funds for Anglicare NT’s Pandanus Program. On Thursday 12 November at Barramundi Volkswagen, a major sponsor of the popular event, Reel Women presented a cheque to Jemma Wood from Anglicare NT for $4307.

Jemma Wood, Operations Manager – Youth Support & Development at Anglicare NT, said: “Anglicare NT is very grateful for the support from the Barramundi Volkswagen Reel Women Barra Classic. Anglicare NT has been supporting young women and families throughout their pregnancies and early parenting for over 15 years. This generous donation will enable us to further support young women as they become strong and confident members of the community.”

“It is great to have the support of local Darwin business people to improve outcomes for young people in Darwin and the surrounding areas.”

Barramundi Volkswagen New Car Sales Manager Mr Keith Collins said “We are proud to support Reel Women, Australia’s original and biggest women’s barra classic which in return supports a great community organisation, Anglicare NT.”

The unique event was started in 2002 by keen angler Emma Cartwright, who thought it would be a great opportunity to encourage more ladies to get involved in recreational fishing, and it has worked with thousands of women participating over the last 14 years.

Emma says: “This event is not just about fishing. It is about a group of like-minded ladies getting together in a supportive environment for a weekend of fun and frivolity.”

The 15th Annual Reel Women Barra Classic registration forms are now online and teams from right across the country are signing up to compete. The winning teams will be crowned Australia’s best fisherwomen.
