It’s National Youth Week!!

To celebrate Youth Week, Anglicare NT are hosting several activities across the NT. Youth Week is an opportunity for young people to express their ideas and views, act on issues that affect their lives, and create and enjoy activities and events.

Youth Homelessness Matters Day, held on Wednesday 5 April 2017,  is an important component of National Youth Week. Anglicare NT is hosting YouthFest in Katherine to raise awareness of Youth Homelessness Matters Day. Young people can join in cooking, boxing, painting and weaving workshops, get a free meal and learn about youth homelessness and local homelessness services.

In Darwin, the sixth annual Couch Surfing races will take place on Youth Homelessness Matters Day. More than 20 teams of young people have been decorating couches, getting ready to battle it out for the race of the year. In the Northern Territory, approximately 3,947 young Territorians aged between 12 – 24 years are homeless (ABS, 2012). The majority of these young people are living in overcrowded accommodation or couch surfing.

In Nhulunbuy, Anglicare NT will host Gove’s Got Talent on Saturday 8th April. Gove’s Got Talent is a youth focused community event that showcases youth leadership and talent.

Anglicare NT is proud to support young people across the Northern Territory through numerous youth programs including childbirth education, early intervention for mental health, accommodation support, emergency relief and youth diversion and engagement programs.

Have a fantastic Youth Week!!
