NAIDOC Week – Because of Her, We Can!

Anglicare NT is proud to be supporting another year of NAIDOC Week celebrations. With this year’s theme, ‘Because of her, we can!’ we reflect on the significant roles Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have in our families, communities and Country.

“Right across the NT we are struck daily by the role women play in leading and shaping our futures” said Dave Pugh, Anglicare NT CEO.

“NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity for us to pause and reflect on the incredible leadership women play in each of our lives, not just our managers and political leaders but our mothers, our elders, our grandmothers, our aunties, our sisters and our daughters.”

Each July, Anglicare NT participates in NAIDOC Week activities that celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Throughout the Territory, many staff will join in the NAIDOC Week Marches and Flag Raising Ceremonies.

In Darwin, we’re supporting the NAIDOC Awards and a family movie day with Larrakia Nation, while in Katherine we take part in a cultural celebration and cinema under the stars. In Nhulunbuy we’re hosting a morning tea, as well as a Circus Skills program geared towards the NAIDOC theme. And in Alice Springs, we’re having a Family Fun Day with stalls, food and activities including an activity for children and families to draw or write about the inspiring women in their lives.
