Lives Enriched by Volunteers

National Volunteers Week is celebrated from 9-15 May. Volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of several Anglicare NT programs. A friendly smile, a chat about the weather and knowing someone will drop by to say hello changes the lives of many Territorians. Volunteers with the Community Visitors Scheme visit socially or culturally isolated residents in aged care homes and home care once a fortnight. Volunteers are matched with a care recipient and help to enrich their lives through interactions such as conversation, playing games or trips to the library or movies.

Meals on Wheels volunteers help make it possible for people who are aged or have a disability to stay in their homes, where most are happiest and can maintain their independence. Delivery of nutritious meals, social interaction and a friendly check of a client’s wellbeing by Meals on Wheels volunteers can help people live the lives they choose.

Anglicare NT’s ReStore Op Shop and Volunteer Program benefits from volunteers assisting with customer service, collecting and sorting of donated goods, displaying and restoring second hand items, gardening and maintenance works. At the same time as giving to the community, volunteers wanting to get back into the workforce can learn important skills and confidence that can assist them on their journey into paid employment.

The support Anglicare NT volunteers give makes a real and lasting difference to the lives of many people in our community. For information about volunteering opportunities at Anglicare NT phone 08 8985 0000.
