A Celebration of Women

The Anglicare NT office in East Arnhem is looking forward to hosting an event for International Women’s Day at Yirrkala on Thursday 8 March 2018.

The day will commence with a Women’s Day March from Yirrkala School, through the community and ending outside Buku-Larrnggay Art Centre. The March will be followed by a Welcome to Country and traditional bunggul by the Rirratjingu clan at the Roy Marika stage. Senior female traditional owner Lak Lak Marika will make a keynote address and Yolngu Radio will broadcast live from the site.

Various workshops and activities will be offered including bush food and medicine by Yirralka Miyalk Rangers, MEP Miyalk Café and Op shop, Miwatj Health promotions and children’s activities coordinated by East Arnhem Regional Council. Anglicare NT will offer people the opportunity to lino print a T-shirt.

Entries are now open for a photography exhibition, with photos to be displayed under the trees and a People’s Choice award for the most popular portrait. After a barbecue lunch, Magnolia Maymuru will share some of her exciting experiences in the modelling world. The day will close with a women’s exhibition AFL football match at the Yirrkala oval. We look forward to the whole community coming along and enjoying the fun.
