Concerns over fraudulent NDIS practices in the Territory
As an ethical NDIS‑registered provider, Anglicare NT is deeply concerned about fraudulent and exploitative practices emerging across the Northern Territory. Recent media reports and the high‑level arrest of a Darwin-based National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) employee reflect issues our staff have long observed and raised with peak body National Disability Services (NDS), the media, clients and other reputable providers.
Anglicare NT is proud to deliver NDIS Support Coordination services, assisting Territorians to get the most from their NDIS plans by connecting them with the right supports and trusted services. Our trained staff also provide disability support services in Nhulunbuy, supporting people to build on their strengths, work toward their goals and foster independence and community connection.
Anglicare NT championed the creation of the NT NDIS Provider Forum, which promotes ethical practice, collaboration and service quality improvement across the sector. Facilitated by the NDS, the forum brings together registered NDIS providers committed to strengthening participant outcomes in the Northern Territory.
Recent internal business decisions highlight a growing concern: for reputable, professional NDIS providers, delivering high‑quality services should not come at a financial loss—yet, under current settings, it often does. In recent years, Anglicare NT made the difficult decision to wind-up disability support services in Darwin and Katherine. This was due to ongoing financial challenges within the NDIS funding model, particularly for larger providers committed to ethical and compliant practice.
Statement from Anglicare NT CEO Craig Kelly
“Anglicare NT remains deeply committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity and accountability in all aspects of our work. We unequivocally support the protection of vulnerable people and the responsible stewardship of public funds. Any form of fraud, exploitation or abuse of trust has no place in community services. We continue to ensure our practices are transparent, compliant with all relevant laws and consistently focused on the dignity, safety and wellbeing of the people and communities we serve.
We will continue to lobby for changes to the NDIS and its administration to ensure rogue elements are brought to the attention of the NDIS Quality and Safety Commission. We will also continue to only engage with ethical providers who truly have the best interests of NDIS participants at heart.”
