National Reconciliation Week

The theme of this week’s National Reconciliation week, ‘In This Together’, encourages all Australians to reflect on the part they play – whether big or small – on our journey towards reconciliation.

The dates of National Reconciliation Week, 27 May to 3 June, commemorate two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey – the 1967 Referendum acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the High Court Mabo decision. National Reconciliation Week is also preceded by National Sorry Day on 26 May.

A more reconciled Australia takes a commitment and contribution from us all. At Anglicare NT, our commitment and contribution is affirmed through our Reconciliation Action Plan and through the work we do across the Northern Territory. We continually seek to strengthen our efforts towards reconciliation in many ways. We embrace the stories, contribution and learnings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; we adapt our services and ways of working to ensure we are culturally responsive; we listen deeply to our partners and the communities and people we work with; and we value and recognise the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their histories, language, culture and continuing connection to land and sea.

Anglicare NT CEO, Dave Pugh, reflects on the ways our organisation can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
