Employability (Katherine)

Employability Program

What is Anglicare NT Employability?

Anglicare NT Employability is a ‘Capped’ Disability Employment Network provider of the Australian Government Employment Services, whose work is focused on people with disabilities, injuries and conditions of a permanent nature.
We support individuals to find and keep paid jobs in open employment with award wages or certified agreements. We provide support for the employer and client on an individual needs basis. There is no cost to the employer or the client for service provision or support requirements. We are not a sheltered workshop nor do we help people to get into sheltered employment.
Anglicare NT Employability is funded through the:
Department of Education Employment and Work Place Relations.

Who is Anglicare NT Employability for?

You may be on:
New Start, Youth Allowance or Parenting Payment with full time participation requirements, or pre-May 2005 with no participation requirement, or a current Disability Support Pension or occasionally no payment at all.
Anglicare NT Employability supports individuals presenting with a wide range of disabilities/illnesses; however, you must be assessed as eligible by an Independent ‘Job Capacity Assessor’ before we can commence working with you. You must also require support to work or be in need of support to keep a job and:

  • have an ongoing disability/illness attributed to an intellectual, psychiatric, sensory, physical, neurological or cognitive impairment (or combination of the above)

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, if service capacity is full and there is no more than a two month wait time. A working individual with a disability, identified by the employer as having difficulties, deems that situation as a ‘ Job in Jeopardy’ and will be a priority, and/or an ex client may re-enter the service within 12 months of exit without a wait time. Once we have received your completed referral, you will be sent a letter acknowledging your application or if relevant the expected wait time. An initial interview date and time will be arranged to determine your service requirements.

Can I put my name down on other waiting lists as well?

Yes. You can sit on as many waiting lists as you like. However, you are only allowed to receive intensive assistance from one service at a time.

How does the service work?

Every client has an individually tailored programme and is supported in ways that are flexible and responsive to changing needs.
Anglicare NT Employability will develop an ‘Activity Agreement’ (support plan) with you and deliver the identified areas of support. A Vocational Profile (resume) will also be complied with you and logged onto the ‘Australian Job Search’ website, which you will be able to access, change or modify as you require. The website is undated each night with available job matches to your resume. You are able to access the site through your own ID number and personal pin number.
The Employability Program will utilise their skills and networks to generate job interviews for relevant vacancies and pursue identified employment avenues with prospective employers. You may also choose to attend one of the training options available in the Katherine Region. You will also be expected to participate in the job search process with assistance from your support worker.

Does Anglicare NT Employability support people in self-employment?

Yes. We cannot subsidise your business venture but we can provide support in areas of identified difficulties. This support may include such things as hands-on assistance, advocating and/or mentoring.

How long will I stay on the Employability Program?

Your program can deliver services for up to 18 months to secure a job, whilst greater than 6 months of ongoing support is defined as the client group that access DEN, according to individual need , ongoing support can be delivered for the duration of employment.

Our Aim
Is to support individuals to an independence of service delivery from Employability.
