Garma Youth Forum 2008

50 young people dance together at the bunggul ground at the Garma festival to say thank you to elders for allowing the youth forum to be conducted at Gulkula, NT and to honour the 'walking together' of Yolngu and Ngapiki young people.

Community Visitors Scheme

The role of the Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is to provide one on one volunteer visits to socially isolated residents in aged care facilities, whose quality of life would be improved by friendship and companionship.

The Scheme was established in the Northern Territory in 1993 with six volunteers visiting two facilities in Darwin. Since 1993, it has grown to over 100 volunteers visiting more than 11 facilities in Darwin,   Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.

There has been consistent emphasis on training of volunteers since CVS began, in order to equip them with skills and knowledge in the areas of geriatric health and social wellbeing.

CVS external evaluation conducted by the Department of Health and Aging  reflects the NT Program outcomes as the best on a national comparison scale.
Regional development of CVS continues, with a resultant reflection in the dramatic increase in visitor/volunteer numbers.
