At Garma 2008 Anglicare NT, in conjunction with the Yothu Yindi Foundation, East Arnhem Youth Committee and the Youth Interagency Network will present Yuta Yolngu—the Garma Miwatj Youth Forum, an exciting program of cultural and personal development for young people.

If you are between 12—18 years old, and live in the East Arnhem region, get yourself along to the Garma Miwatj Youth Forum Saturday 9th—Monday 11th August 2008

The Youth Forum has proved to be an effective medium in which to host activities and workshops designed to engage young people from the East Arnhem region, incorporating recreational, cultural and educational activities facilitated by national and local agencies.  Workshops include:

  • Lino Printing
  • Hip Hop
  • Health & Healing Workshops
  • Traditional & Contemporary Dance
  • Collecting Bush Medicine
  • Drum Beat Workshop
  • Spear Making & Traditional Crafts
  • Story Telling
  • Personal Development Workshops

The benefits of the Youth Forum are beyond measure, as one young person says, “I know more about culture than ever before”

It allows young people from different backgrounds to experience aspects of Yolngu culture, language and law.  It provides young people with opportunities to make new friends and contacts, expand their skills and have an opportunity to voice ideas and concerns about their surroundings and future.
